Course Overview

Black Women in Training (BWIT) offers a transformative six-week program, providing a structured curriculum that fosters empowerment, academic excellence, leadership development, and community engagement. By incorporating statistics and tailored workshops, BWIT equips young Black women with tools to thrive, promoting resilience, self-advocacy, and positive change. This rotating curriculum ensures a holistic approach, nurturing participants’ growth and development over time while addressing the specific challenges faced by young Black women.

Week 1: Self-identity and self-worth workshops emphasizing personal strengths and embracing individual identities.

Week 2: Confidence-building sessions focusing on resilience, overcoming challenges, and affirming self-worth.

Weeks 3-4: Academic Excellence

Week 3: Academic support workshops covering study skills, time management, and access to educational resources.

Week 4: Mentor-led academic sessions, providing guidance and tutoring to enhance academic skills.

Weeks 5-6: Leadership Development and Community Engagement

Week 5: Leadership workshops concentrating on leadership qualities, public speaking, and problem-solving.

Week 6: Community engagement projects, encouraging participants to apply leadership skills through community service activities.

Each cycle would maintain a similar structure, rotating through the objectives, reinforcing concepts, and building upon previous lessons. Additionally,

integrating statistics and discussions about violence and single mother households should be woven throughout each cycle, fostering awareness and

understanding among participants.

Evaluation and Impact:

Continuous assessment throughout the program will be crucial. Weekly feedback sessions,

progress tracking on academic achievements, mentor and participant evaluations, and

surveys would facilitate ongoing improvements and customization to meet evolving needs.

activists to address the participants. Invite speakers who embody the values and goals of

BWIT, sharing their stories of success, resilience, and community impact. This event aims to

inspire, motivate, and provide real-life examples of empowerment for the young Black women

in the program.

Field Trip: Visit to the Black Women’s Museum in Seattle
